Brisbane's Commercial Compliance Electricians —
We Find It, We Fix It, In One Visit.

RCDs (Residual Current Devices) are critical for protecting people from electric shock — but only if they function correctly.

Prowire Electrical provides professional RCD testing, reporting, and rectification, helping you maintain compliance, reduce risk, and support your insurance requirements.

What is RCD Testing?

A Residual Current Device (RCD) — also called a safety switch — is your building's protection against electrical shock and electrocution.

But an RCD that has never been tested may not work when you need it.

Under Queensland's Work Health and Safety Regulation 2011, all employers must ensure their RCDs are tested regularly by a licensed, competent electrician, and records must be kept. Non-compliance can result in significant penalties.

Why RCD Testing is important?

RCDs are designed to trip instantly when a fault is detected — but they can fail over time due to:

✔ Wear and tear

✔ Environmental conditions

✔ Electrical faults

✔ Lack of regular testing

Why businesses schedule RCD Testing

Businesses schedule regular RCD testing for several important reasons:

Protect People from Electric Shock

RCDs are designed to disconnect power instantly when a fault is detected. If an RCD fails: It may not trip during a fault and people can be exposed to serious injury or electrocution.

Maintain Proper Documentation

Testing provides a clear record of System condition, testing dates and results.  This documentation is important for audits, workplace safery requirements and internal risk management.

Identify Faulty or Failing Devices Early

Regular testing helps identify non-functioning devices, slow trip times and hidden faults. Early detection allows issues to be fixed before they become serious.

Meet Legal & Compliance Requirements

Under workplace safety regulations, businesses are required to ensure electrical systems are safe and properly maintained.

Resolve Issues Quickly

When testing is carried out by a licensed electrical contractor like Prowire, faults can be identified, repaird can be completed quickly and system can be brought back into compliance faster.

Stay on Top of Ongoing Maintenance

Businesses with multiple sites or complex systems often schedule testing to keep compliance consistent, avoid missed testing deadlines and simplify saferty management.
